![]() In question 3, students think about translations. Ask students when we have done this before. In question 2, students should be able to predict the effect of replacing x with opposite x and y with opposite y. To highlight how ordered pairs are moving and relate back to the ordered pair rules from earlier lessons, we will use tables to make sense of the equations. To keep things simple, we will focus on the absolute value function and apply single transformations. We can think about how the ordered pairs move individually before considering how the entire figure or graph moves. Point out to students that graphs of equations are also sets of vertices, just like polygons are sets of vertices. Students are now familiar with transforming ordered pairs and shapes, but may be less comfortable with equations on the coordinate plane. Today's lesson seeks to bridge algebraic and geometric understandings of transformations. Whenever possible, we want to connect ideas across courses.
